The Who close Teenage Cancer Trust concerts with Bill Murray and Tracy-Ann Oberman in the audience

Sunday 30th March 2025: Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall closed in spectacular fashion for another year with another unmissable performance by The Who.

Bill Murray was among the lucky audience in the packed venue along with Sadie Frost, Paul McKenna and Tracy-Ann Oberman. Hollywood star Murray recalled seeing The Who play 50 years ago and caught up with Roger Daltrey backstage after the gig.

Singer Roger Daltrey CBE launched the Teenage Cancer Trust concert series in 2000, and it has gone on to be an essential part of the UK’s music calendar, while raising more than £34 million for the charity. In 2026, The Cure’s Robert Smith will step in as guest curator.

The 2025 series ran from March 24-30, including The Who; The Corrs; James Arthur; a night of comedy hosted by Micky Flanagan; a special night by Erased Tapes featuring Penguin Cafe; and Frank Carter and Paul Cook, Steve Jones, Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols.

After bringing the house down on Thursday, The Who roared into action on Sunday with the ’60s hits ‘I Can’t Explain’ and ‘Substitute’.

‘Who Are You’ rocks with intent, Pete Townsend windmilling, while the unmistakable voice of Roger Daltrey fills the auditorium. Roger has been the driving force behind Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall since its inception in 2000, next year handing over to guest curator Robert Smith (The Cure).

The hits kept coming, with the likes of ‘The Kids Are Alright’ and the gorgeous ‘Behind Blue Eyes’ followed by a soaring ‘Real Me’.

Pete’s unique guitar style plays a starring role in ‘5:15’ before his vocals took the lead on a beautiful ‘I’m One’ (“loneliness starts sinking in”). Fan favourite ‘Love, Reign O’er Me’ received a rapturous reception before ‘My Generation’ spun out into an audience spanning the generations, before segueing into ‘See Me, Feel Me/Listening To You’,

The 1982 track ‘Eminence Front’ follows before ‘You Better You Bet’ truly peels back the years.

Roger and Pete enjoy a close bond with the band’s fans and crack jokes throughout their shows. At one point, Pete said: “Many of you will know this is not my chosen career – I would have preferred to have been a dustman, to be honest. But it’s glorious to be here with people like you tonight. Thank you so much.”

There was a standing ovation for ‘Baba O’Riley’, while ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’ received a clap-along intro and the famous Daltrey scream was as huge as you could want. The ‘Song Is Over’ was a rare treat for fans.

Earlier in the evening, Level 42 kicked things off with the clarion call of ‘Heaven In My Hands’ for a set packed with hits. ‘To Be With You Again’ follows, and the undeniable tune of ‘Running In The Family’. ‘The Sun Goes Down (Livin’ It Up) is pure funk, and ‘Lessons in Love’ a pop classic.

Singer and bassist Mark King said: “Thank you for coming along and supporting this incredible charity, Teenage Cancer Trust.

“We’re here having some fun…and you’re going to have to put up with it!

“But look at the money you’re raising for these guys so thank you so much. They do an incredible job.

“And in this incredible venue too. What an incredible treat! It always blows my mind when I come and stand here. I don’t stand here very often, as you can imagine!”

Kate Collins, Chief Executive of Teenage Cancer Trust, said:We are delighted that some of the biggest names from across the music, and entertainment industry are performing at this year’s Teenage Cancer Trust gigs at the Royal Albert Hall. We couldn’t be more grateful for their commitment to raising vital funds for young people with cancer.

“These concerts, brainchild of – and driven by – the legendary Roger Daltrey since 2000, have raised a phenomenal £34 million to fund Teenage Cancer Trust’s work across the UK – making our specialist support possible across the UK so that young people with cancer get the expert, individual care and support they need at this unique and critical stage of their lives.

“These gigs would not exist without Roger, who remains a tireless Honorary Patron for the charity and is unstoppable in his support for young people with cancer.

“Teenage Cancer Trust exists because cancer care wasn’t made for young people. Without us, a young person diagnosed with cancer today would find themselves lumped together with small children or much older adults. It’s only thanks to our supporters that we can continue to be there for every young person who needs us.

“We’re deeply thankful to everyone who is involved in making these concerts possible—from the artists and the teams to the people who buy tickets to the shows.”

Jamie Johnson, Head of Music and Entertainment at Teenage Cancer Trust, said: I see firsthand the incredible impact the music and entertainment industry can make when it rallies behind a cause. The Royal Albert Hall shows are a cornerstone of our charity’s work, and their success is only possible thanks to the unwavering support of artists, managers, agents, promoters, crew, and our generous audiences.

“To date, these concerts have raised millions to funding specialist care and transform the experience of cancer for young people at a critical time in their lives. But the need has never been greater. The support of the music and entertainment industry remains vital to ensuring we can continue this life-changing work.

The shows are also proudly supported by American Airlines, Metro, Absolute Radio, S.J.M. Concerts, Twickets, and the Royal Albert Hall.

Aldi, which has partnered with Teenage Cancer Trust since 2017, and raised over £11 million for the charity to date is the headline sponsor for this year’s Royal Albert Hall series. Domino’s, which has partnered with Teenage Cancer Trust for ten years and has raised £8 million for the charity, is the official sponsor of the Ultimate Backstage Experience.

Erased Tapes curates unique musical night at Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall

Saturday 29th March: A rapt audience enjoyed “a night of music like the Royal Albert Hall has never seen before” as Erased Tapes took over for the night in support of Teenage Cancer Trust.

It was a bill of experimental – and truly inspiring – music featuring Penguin Cafe, Douglas Dare, Daniel Brandt and Hatis Noit.

Jamie Johnson, head of music and entertainment at Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “This was a night of music like the Royal Albert Hall has never seen before – from otherworldly vocal soundscapes to rich beats to a joyous orchestral celebration. This venue has heard so much but there is always more music to explore and we’re delighted to be pushing the boundaries in this year’s concerts.

“Each year it is inspiring to see Teenage Cancer Trust receiving support from every corner of the music world – and that support is vital. I see firsthand the impact this charity has on the lives of young people, and the Royal Albert Hall shows are the foundation for everything we do. Its success is only possible thanks to the support of artists, managers, agents, promoters, crew, and our generous audiences.”

This year’s Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall series runs from March 24-30, including The Who; The Corrs; James Arthur; a night of comedy hosted by Micky Flanagan; and Frank Carter and Paul Cook, Steve Jones, Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols.

Saturday opened with a striking figure in red taking to the famous stage, weaving a tapestry of sound, both alien and all too human. Hatis Noit uses her voice to build loops that create the sounds of words and the natural world, rather than singing in any specific language. It is operatic and evocative, wrapped in a thunder that echoes around the famous hall. To end her set she stepped away from the microphone and projected out into the hall, drawing an ovation from the crowd.

Next up was London-based German composer, drummer and filmmaker Daniel Brandt, who treated music fans to an exclusive preview of his brand new multimedia spectacle Without Us, which will premiere in full at the Barbican Hall on April 24.

It is immersive stuff, Brandt pausing only to greet the crowd: “This is actually the first time we’re doing this new project – we only booked it two weeks ago. We’ll keep playing. Thanks for the invite. Enjoy.”

The pummelling soundtrack came from Brandt and another drummer, punctured by the roar of trombone, synths and bass. At times the atmosphere is industrial but the live rhythm section means the music and visuals remain organic.

Douglas Dare was back behind the piano after a recent sojourn into dance music. It is virtuoso playing and songwriting, the Royal Albert Hall silent but for his pure voice and fingers on the keys.

He said: “This next song is called ‘Heavenly Bodies’ and I would like to dedicate it to Teenage Cancer Trust. Thank you so much for inviting us all here tonight. This song is for them.”

The song is a sorrowful nursery rhyme that wanders far beyond the confines of a bedtime tune.

“I would like to play a song that I haven’t played for anyone yet apart from my boyfriend. He’s the only one that’s heard it. It’s called ‘Nightclub’.”

The title may hint at the disco but it is rather a beautiful piano ballad. Douglas took a moment to take in the surroundings, say ‘hi’ to his mum and get the audience to produce notes to sample and drone behind stunning closing song ‘Red Arrows’.

A nine-piece Penguin Cafe kicked straight into their headline set with the unmistakable ‘Perpetuum Mobile’, a couple of penguin masks on show.

The band is led by Arthur Jeffes and is a continuation and development of the work of his father Simon’s Penguin Cafe Orchestra for 25 years from 1972. The music is uplifting and accessible, and the audience was hooked with infectious melodies like ‘Telephone and Rubber Band’ and the bluesy bluegrass of ‘Dirt’.

There is no act quite like Penguin Cafe. Who, for example, would tell a story about how Greek mathematician Pythagoras hated beans to explain their instrumental track ‘Bean Fields’?’

Arthur took a moment to thank Erased Tapes for its support and for rereleasing Penguin Cafe’s debut record, A Matter of Life… before playing album track ‘Landau’.

Each piece has a story: “The next is also from two albums ago when we were into writing about penguins, and we began writing about individual penguins, and there was one in particular that we decided sounded like the theme tune to a 1970s TV detective show and it’s called ‘Chapter’.”

Next up was Penguin Cafe’s take on Simeon Mobile Disco’s ‘Wheels Within Wheels’ and then the imposing weight of ‘Rescue’.

With irresistible songs like ‘Music For a Found Harmonium’ in their arsenal, there wasn’t a soul in the building who wasn’t fully in the Penguin Cafe world come the end of the night.

“We’re deeply thankful to everyone who is involved in making these concerts possible—from the artists and the teams to the people who buy tickets to the shows.”

As ever, the Ultimate Backstage Experience has been running all this week for young people from across the country, who are being supported by Teenage Cancer Trust. Every day, these groups visit the Royal Albert Hall to enjoy an unforgettable experience. From the moment they arrive, they enjoy access and opportunities that money can’t buy, before taking their place in some of the best seats in the house to watch the shows in style.

The Corrs mark special night at Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall

Friday 28th March: The Corrs thanked the Royal Albert Hall for a “pivotal” moment that sent their career soaring, as they performed in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust.

This year’s Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall series runs from March 24-30, including The Who; James Arthur; a night of comedy hosted by Micky Flanagan; a special night by Erased Tapes featuring Penguin Cafe; and Frank Carter and Paul Cook, Steve Jones, Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols.

The excitement of the packed venue was palpable as the sound of drums kicked in and the band appeared, arms aloft, for an impassioned ‘Only When I Sleep’, followed by the smouldering ‘Give Me A Reason’.

Andrea told the audience that the band had the Royal Albert Hall to thank for a stratospheric career.

“This place is very dear to our hearts. It was a completely pivotal moment in our career. We were a little bit younger than we are now. Our music was being put generally in the folk section in the archives of record stores. They didn’t really know where to put us, the combination of the traditional Irish and pop rock, the ‘prock’, if we’re going to go full ‘Spinal Tap’. That all changed because we capitalised on our Irishness…because it was St Patrick’s Day and it was broadcast on the BBC – that changed our trajectory. This place is where it happened so it’s really special to play here.

“The charity, Teenage Cancer Trust – it’s incredible what they do, supporting these teenagers that are even more vulnerable than teenagers are already. Let’s blow the roof off tonight.”

Caroline led off on violin for a haunting ‘Lough Erin Shore’, while the first massive hit of the night was the radio classic ‘What Can I Do’ – every bit as upbeat as it should be.

The crowd was on its feet and clapping along for ‘Joy of Life’, and then the showstopping ‘Ellis Island’, piano led and beautiful – a paean to America as a land of hope, as inspiring a tune as you will find.

‘Lagan Love’ and the upbeat pop classic ‘Radio’ followed. The crowd’s vocal chords were well and truly warmed up by the time the unbeatable run of their famous cover of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Dreams’, ‘I Never Loved You Anyway’, ‘So Young’ and ‘Runaway’.

The encore featured ‘Breathless’, with the entire Royal Albert Hall audience on its feet and ready to jig for finale ‘Toss the Feathers’.

Special guests Dea Matrona, school friends Mollie McGinn and Orlaith Forsythe, spent their early years busking on the streets of Belfast and have earned their path to the Royal Albert Hall. Armed with perfect harmonies and outstanding tunes, a highlight came as the other members of the band took a step back (“Let the lads take a break”) leaving Mollie and Orlaith on acoustic guitars for a gorgeous ‘Glory Glory’ (“I heard the angel calling me. And my heart, it starts to bleed. Glory glory we are free”). The band returned for the rocking, pretentious epic finale, Red Button.

The Who take to the stage at Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall

Thursday 27th March 2025: The fourth night of a brilliant week of Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall saw the original (mod)fathers of the whole event, The Who, take to the stage.

In 2000, the charity’s Honorary Patron, and lead singer of The Who, Roger Daltrey CBE, started these shows and, until this year, had curated every series since, raising £34 million for the charity.

The 2025 series runs from March 24-30, including The Who; The Corrs; James Arthur; a night of comedy hosted by Micky Flanagan; a special night by Erased Tapes featuring Penguin Cafe; and Frank Carter and Paul Cook, Steve Jones, Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols.

The Who were watched by Sam Fender, Caroline and Jim from fellow headliners The Corrs, who perform on Friday night, comedian Micky Flanagan, who was Tuesday’s host, and author and comedian David Baddiel, plus the likes of Queen’s Roger Taylor and Paul Weller. Roger and Pete Townshend were back to support in the best way possible, reconvening their legendary band on this famous stage. They played the first of two special nights this week. They were in incredible form as ever, opening with one of their early 1960s classics, ‘I Can’t Explain’, before flying into ‘Who Are You’ and then ‘The Kids Are Alright’.

Roger talked of meeting an inspiring 19-year-old woman at a Teenage Cancer Trust ward, who had been diagnosed late with stage 4 Ewing sarcoma, before dedicating ‘I Can See For Miles’ to her.

“To meet that woman, and the energy in her, knowing what she had, knowing she was having chemo over Christmas – what a wonderful way to spend it – but she was fantastic. She didn’t feel sorry for herself, she was determined that this charity has got to exist and the GPs that see teenagers all the time have got to recognise that early diagnosis in that age group is everything to them. It’s nothing to do with money – just do your job and recognise it.”

The show quickly became a run through their peerless catalogue with ‘Pinball Wizard’, a soaring ‘The Seeker’ and a touching ‘Behind Blue Eyes’ (“keep me warm, let me wear your coat”).

Pete said: “Great to be back at the Royal Albert Hall doing this Teenage Cancer Trust thing again. We couldn’t do this without you. We could try but it wouldn’t raise much money. As Roger was saying, it’s a really tough time for charities so it’s really great that you have come out.”

Pete took lead vocals on the delicate stomper ‘I’m One’, while the sheer power of Love Reign was on full display, along with the undimmed power of Roger’s voice.

Pete said as much: “From the first band rehearsal, Roger came in and his voice was fantastic.” And then they launched into a huge ‘My Generation’.

‘Eminence Front’ is a funky joy, with drummer Zack Starkey, surfing its tape loop (“If you want to join the party, you know you got to dress to kill”).

And then some of the big guns came out: ‘You Better You Bet’ followed by possibly the greatest intro in rock in ‘Baba O’Riley’. It’s hard to overstate the scale of the song and the words ‘teenage wasteland’ take on an extra weight in the context of the cause.

‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’ was equally epic (“I’ll get on my guitar and play, just like yesterday”),

Pete’s guitar driving the song through until THAT scream from Roger.

Roger told the audience he gets asked how he can sing these songs at the age of 81. His answer: “I look at those youngsters every night and I think: if they can deal with their lot, this is a piece of p*ss.”

The night ended with a surprise, as the friends worked through an unrehearsed but tender ‘Tea & Theatre’, a poignant number about losing a loved one, from their 2006 album, Endless Wire.

It put in mind a moment earlier in the evening when the Royal Albert Hall audience was given an emotional reminder of why everyone is here this week. Emma and Neil Hawksey, who lost their daughter Kirsten in 2017, just four weeks after her initial diagnosis, spoke to the audience. A video was shown of her story and her father spoke about how both Kirsten and themselves had received incredible support from the charity.

“When Kirsten was in hospital, she was supported both emotionally and practically by her Youth Co-ordinator, Franki, as well as having access to a teenage and young adult room and other Teenage Cancer Trust sponsored facilities on the ward. Franki was a constant source of support throughout Kirsten’s diagnosis and treatment and we will always be thankful for her time, patience and dedication to supporting our family. After Kirsten passed away, my wife Emma received years of emotional support from Kate, a psychologist we were put in touch with via Teenage Cancer Trust, who helped her navigate those first few years of grief and loss.

“The support that Teenage Cancer Trust provides to Teenagers, Young Adults and families like ours is absolutely crucial. Nobody expects to need the services that they provide, that would be too difficult for anyone to comprehend. But in reality, it could be your family, it could be your loved one that needs help and you would be as grateful as we are.

“This is why our family have tried our best to support Teenage Cancer Trust in as many ways as possible.  We will forever be grateful to Teenage Cancer Trust, and will continue to sing their praises whilst raising much needed donations and we encourage you all to do the same.”

Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to providing specialised nursing care and support for young people with cancer.

The Who return on Sunday for another historic show.

Earlier in the evening, Level 42, led by their founding frontman and bassist Mark King treated the audience to a storming set. Formed as a jazz-funk band in 1979 they went on to have massive hits including ‘Lessons In Love’ and ‘Something About You’. Those were crowd favourites and the likes of the funky ‘Starchild’ and ‘The Chinese Way’ showed off the master musicianship of one of rock’s most famous bass players.

Emphasising the poignancy of the evening, the headline act was preceded by a VT and an on-stage appearance from a number of young people who have survived cancer and received support from Teenage Cancer Trust – part of the Ultimate Backstage Experience, which runs all this week for young people from across the country, who are being supported by Teenage Cancer Trust. Every day, these groups visit the Royal Albert Hall to enjoy an unforgettable experience. From the moment they arrive, they enjoy access and opportunities that money can’t buy, before taking their place in some of the best seats in the house to watch the shows in style.

To mark the 25th anniversary of Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall, the British artist and Gorillaz co-creator, Jamie Hewlett – a long-time supporter of Teenage Cancer Trust – has re-designed his iconic Teenage Cancer Trust logo for 2025. Inspired by Teenage Cancer Trust’s theme ‘TEEN SPIRIT’, Hewlett’s original design for the Teenage Cancer Trust live shows has been reimagined as a brand new, full colour artwork which celebrates the many young people who are supported by the important work of Teenage Cancer Trust, as well as the joyful energy of youth and music.

Emotional night as James Arthur plays Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall

Wednesday 26th March

James Arthur paid tribute to a friend he lost to cancer as he headlined Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday.

The superstar performed hits including ‘Say You Won’t Let Me Know’ and ‘Rewrite The Stars’ to an audience of adoring fans.

It was also a deeply personal night for singer GK of special guests Venus Grrrls, who herself was supported by Teenage Cancer Trust when she received treatment.

This year’s series of concerts runs from March 24-30, including The Who; The Corrs; a night of comedy hosted by Micky Flanagan; a special night by Erased Tapes featuring Penguin Cafe; and Frank Carter and Paul Cook, Steve Jones, Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols.

For James Arthur, the screams were deafening before he launched into ‘Bitter Sweet Love’, and fans around the hall were up and out of their seats.

The opening song over, the venue around him sank in: “I need to take this thing in for a minute, not just to see us but for this amazing cause.”

He then had everyone left in their seat up on their feet, and launched into ‘Sermon’.

Hits followed, including ‘Impossible’ and the recent single ‘Celebrate’.

“I’m going to take you right back to the very beginning with a song called ‘You’re Nobody Until Somebody Lives You’,” was met with delight before the squeal of guitar, big beats and a huge chorus bolstered by the considerable power of the backing singers.

“I just want to talk about something that’s very close to my heart: mental health,” he said, adding: “To be vulnerable is to be courageous. It does not make you weak to talk about mental health.”

Most of the room joined in with every confessional word of Trainwreck, before the piano at the start of ‘Thousand Years’ was accompanied by cries of “I love you, James” and the track became a communal singalong, phone lights held aloft.

He went on to pay tribute to his friend, Wayne, who was lost to cancer: “I don’t want to bring the mood down but we lost someone very close to us to cancer recently. He was a big part of our team. He drove me around for a long time, for many years. This is a song I wrote called ‘Car’s Outside’. That song was written about me always leaving my loved ones. I left the North East, I left all my family and friends chasing this dream. Whenever I used to get the text message ‘car’s outside’ from management or whoever it was always Wayne that was sitting outside, at all the hours you can imagine. He was the best guy ever and he was taken away from us suddenly through cancer. This song will always remind me of him.”

James Arthur has a new album, PISCES, coming out on April 25th, featuring recent songs including ‘ADHD’ and ‘Celebrate’, which offers an intimate, heart-rending exploration of James’ journey from his difficult upbringing to a place of self-realization and growth.

Special guests Venus Grrrls are a spiritual, goth-grunge force-of-nature with rockers such as ‘Hex’, ‘Divine’ and recent single ‘Eighteen Crows’. They took to the grand old stage like they belonged.

Before the haunting ‘Glisten’, showcasing singer GK’s vocal power, she said: “This song is a love song and it is the only spell I will cast to make someone fall in love with me.”

GK herself was supported by Teenage Cancer Trust when she went on her own cancer journey, and she called on the audience to donate, saying: “Every young person deserves the same amazing care that I got.”

In a film of her story, screened at the concert, GK said: “Being diagnosed with cancer absolutely shatters the world as you know it, but it was absolutely my saving grace that Teenage Cancer Trust were so present in my cancer journey. They are a very special charity and I’m so grateful to them.”

After the interval, compere Gaby Logan told the audience: “Young people shouldn’t be worrying about cancer. They should be worrying about exams, about job interviews, about first dates, those things.

“Teenage Cancer Trust units are amazing places. They’re not like normal hospitals, they make the young people feel like themselves. It’s a community. It’s the most incredible place and you are all here tonight helping this amazing charity.”

To applause from around the auditorium, Gaby brought on young people supported by the charity, including Claudia, who said: “Teenage Cancer Trust supported me from when I was diagnosed with a rare type of sarcoma in January 2023. They supported me all throughout the treatment, when I lost my hair, and also after treatment when I needed it the most.”

Kate Collins, Chief Executive of Teenage Cancer Trust, said:We are delighted that some of the biggest names from across the music, and entertainment industry are performing at this year’s Teenage Cancer Trust gigs at the Royal Albert Hall. Monday 24 March 2025

The incredible Sex Pistols, featuring Frank Carter made their Royal Albert Hall debut tonight, bringing the original punks to the country’s grandest stage.

The band’s journey was played out over the space of three days, with an intense warm-up show (under the name ‘The Spots’) on Friday at London’s legendary 100 Club, followed by an appearance at the Royal Albert Hall, with all its establishment heritage.

One of those nights that can only have been for Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall, the band threatened to blow the building apart. With thousands of fans coming to celebrate some of the most influential music ever played in rock, the Pistols and their new frontman (and later generation punk legend) Frank Carter, blasted through the seminal album ‘Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols’ and more.

To the sound of a classical orchestra, a fully suited Frank Carter took to the stage alongside Paul Cook, Steve Jones and Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols. Launching into ‘Holidays In the Sun,’ they blasted through the first three songs back to back before Carter addressed the crowd, “What a privilege and an honour it is to be at this amazing venue with so many incredible people. Thank you very much for coming out. Thank you to the Teenage Cancer Trust; what an amazing cause. Amazing people.”

From the start, there were circle pits, mass crowd surfing and Frank conducting it all from the stage, in the crowd, on the crowd…. provoking anarchy as ‘God Save The Queen‘ finally made it to the Royal Albert Hall. They raged through the likes of ‘Pretty Vacant‘, ‘Bodies‘, ‘No Fun‘ and ‘Satellite‘. Carter instructed the crowd to make a circle pit that he wasn’t part of, just so he could see it, “Open the dance floor, you’ll never get to do it again… they don’t allow it at the ballet.”

No Feelings‘, ‘Problems‘ and ‘EMI‘ followed, before an encore of the Sid Vicious version of ‘My Way‘ (“Dim the lights and get your phones out. Imagine this is a Coldplay gig, but it’s much better” – Carter).

The night ended with ‘Anarchy In The UK‘, crowd surfing en masse and a deserved standing ovation.

Earlier in the evening, a new era of punks took to the stage, unleashing their own furious sound. The Molotovs kicked off the night with a razor-sharp set, tapping into a retro mod-rock energy. The three-piece is clearly riding the crest of a wave, with a CV that includes support slots for Blondie and The Libertines. Fronted by sibling duo Matthew and Issey Carts, the London band has even been tipped by Green Day to go all the way.

Following The Molotovs, Hastings’ Kid Kapichi. The band, who have been selling out shows across the UK over the past year, delivered a powerful set featuring tracks from their latest album, There Goes The Neighbourhood. The self-described Beat-Punk outfit also took a moment to express their appreciation for Teenage Cancer Trust during their performance. Frontman Jack Wilson said, “It’s an absolute pleasure [to be here today]… It’s such an honour to be here for such an amazing cause. Teenage Cancer Trust, what an amazing group of people.

And last but not least, lets give it up for the f*cking Sex Pistols. And Frank Carter, what a good job he’s doing.

Emphasising the poignancy of the evening, the headline act was preceded by a VT and an on-stage appearance from a number of young people who have survived cancer and received support from Teenage Cancer Trust. Among them was 24-year-old Grace, frontwoman of VENUS GRRRLS, who are set to support James Arthur at Wednesday’s concert. Sharing her story, Grace told the audience, “It’s often difficult to find the words to truly convey what having cancer as a young person is like; it’s nothing short of a darkness that shrouds your delicate perception of the world.”

“After 9 months of invasive chemotherapy, immunotherapy, 13 bone marrow biopsies, and countless blood transfusions, I can declare that as of February, I have been cancer free for two years!

[Teenage Cancer Trust’s] support during and after my treatment has meant that I had a community.

That is why I am here tonight, to ask you to donate so they can continue their life changing and virtuous work for other young people like myself, who are just starting their journey.”

This year’s series runs from March 24-30, including The Who; The Corrs; James Arthur; a night of comedy hosted by Micky Flanagan; a special night by Erased Tapes featuring Penguin Cafe; and Frank Carter and Paul Cook, Steve Jones, Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols.

As ever, the Ultimate Backstage Experience will be run all this week for young people from across the country, who are being supported by Teenage Cancer Trust. Every day, these groups visit the Royal Albert Hall to enjoy an unforgettable experience. From the moment they arrive, they enjoy access and opportunities that money can’t buy, before taking their place in some of the best seats in the house to watch the shows in style.

USHER KICKS OFF THE FIRST NIGHT AT THE O2 ARENA,LONDON

Saturday night (29 March) saw London come alive as global icon USHER put on the show of a lifetime for 20,000 fans at The O2 in London, the first of 10 London shows as part of the USHER: Past Present Future Tour. The show has already been highly praised by critics with 4 and 5 star reviews.

From the moment USHER ascended to the stage, the atmosphere was charged with pure energy and excitement. Moving seamlessly through his extensive catalogue, he commanded the arena with a show divided into 10 distinct acts. His signature blend of smooth vocals and highly advanced and precision choreography, including a 15 minute skate routine, made each moment feel larger than life. The setlist spanned three decades of hits, taking the audience on a journey through USHER’s evolution. He revisited “Call Me A Mack”, global smash hits like “Yeah!”, “U Got It Bad”, “Love In This Club”, and “There Goes My Baby”. Moving into the 2010s and beyond, he delivered the emotive “Climax” and his recent hit “Good Good”, a reminder of the global entertainer’s incredible longevity.

Taking a moment to reflect on his 30-year career, he spoke directly to the crowd, acknowledging the deep connection he shares with his London fans: “Hopefully my music has been something to you. Maybe we fell in love together, maybe we had a good time together, but something brought you here. And I just want you to know, I appreciate the connection. If I didn’t have you to cheer me on, I wouldn’t continue to do this.”

Ever the showman, he made his way through the crowd during My Boo, handing out his own USH POUNDS and pouring shots for fans. Embracing the local spirit, he joked, “I will take a pint as we’re here in London!” to the delight of the audience.

The final act brought a poignant moment, as USHER introduced it with a Zoom call to his younger self, offering a chance to reflect on three decades of music and legacy, before USHER closed with anthemic club tune, Without You.

Fashion was just as much a part of the spectacle as the music. USHER’s wardrobe was a masterclass in style, featuring a bespoke Union Jack jacket and trousers by Mowalola, alongside collaborations with Robert Wun, Ralph Lauren, Edward Cumming, Luis De Javier, Luar, David Koma and Alpine Stars. Each look, for both him and his dancers, was as carefully curated as the show itself.

Plus, the stars came out on Saturday night to see the legend in action, including model Leomie Anderson, presenters Maya Jama and Judi Love as well as A list actor Daniel Kaluuya.

After the show, USHER marked the occasion with a stylish celebration on the River Thames. Joined by over 100 VIP guests, he set sail from North Greenwich Pier on a deluxe Uber Boat by Thames Clippers, taking in iconic landmarks like The London Eye and Tower Bridge before arriving at Embankment Pier. The night was a fitting tribute to his milestone residency; elegant, vibrant, and full of energy. From there, the celebrations continued at his own aftershow “The Yeah Man” at The Box Soho, with guests including musician RAYE and Burberry CCO Daniel Lee, rounding off an unforgettable night in London.

From mid April, USHER continues on to perform in Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam, before returning to London on 6th and 7th May to close out the tour.

For tickets visit UsherWorld.com

During USHER’s 10-night UK-exclusive residency at The O2, fans will be able to feel the excitement before entering the arena as active lifestyle company, Flipper’s, heads to The O2.  Entertaining the crowds from 6pm each event day, the Flipper’s sQUAD will perform to some of USHER’s biggest hits.

It’s been a spectacular few years for USHER, from his powerhouse Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime performance, where he dazzled millions with an epic medley of hits alongside special guests Alicia Keys, Ludacris, Lil Jon, H.E.R., Will.i.am, and Jermaine Dupri, to his incredible two-year, 100-show My Way: The Las Vegas Residency and a legendary eight-night run at Paris’ La Seine Musicale. In 2024, he kicked off his Past Present Future tour across North America, selling out over 60 shows and delivering unforgettable performances. Now, he makes his highly anticipated return to Europe, his first arena tour since the 2015 UR Tour.

Over 730,000 fans from all over the world came to see the unique artist as part of her series of ten open-air concerts. The concerts took place in the bespoke Arena at the Messe in Riem, which was tailor-made for her. More than two thirds of the visitors celebrated before and after the performances in the adjacent, first of its kind, Adele World with its diverse entertainment and catering offerings.

With over 730,000 tickets sold, the Adele shows registered the highest attendance of any concert residency outside Las Vegas.

[LONDON, U.K. – December 6, 2023] Tonight, Madonna, a cultural icon commuted on the tube to arrive at North Greenwich for London’s The O2 Arena, to wrap the sold-out European leg of her critically praised The Celebration Tour. The continent was brought to a standstill as the tour, spanning eleven countries and twenty-eight shows, delivered an unparalleled experience of powerful presence, infectious energy, and a mesmerizing production.

Launching this past October in London with the first of six sold out shows at The O2, The Celebration Tour, a testament to Madonna’s groundbreaking legacy, spared no detail. The best-selling female artist of all time delivered a non-stop, fearless performance featuring captivating choreography, bold costumes, and her most elaborate stage to date, masterfully designed by Stufish.

Reflecting on her extraordinary career, Madonna took the enraptured audience on an emotional odyssey through her greatest hits, including songs not performed for decades. From her struggling artist days in New York City to meteoric success, personal and professional lows, and spiritual awakening, the show encapsulated Madonna’s past while embracing the future. Directed for the stage by longtime collaborator Jamie King and musically orchestrated by Stuart Price, the setlist featured iconic tracks like “Nothing Really Matters,” “Open Your Heart,” “Like A Prayer,” “Into The Groove,” and “Crazy For You.”

Madonna has also been joined by various special guest judges during “Vogue” including Debi Mazar, Donatella Versace, Jean Paul Gaultier, Diplo and FKA Twigs, to name a few.

The Celebration Tour, spanning four decades of unstoppable hits, featured twenty onstage performers on a colossal 4,400 square ft. stage—the largest in Madonna’s touring history. The stage, inspired by the Manhattan grid, showcased Uptown, Downtown, Midtown, East, and West stages, with a unique three-layered circular stage reminiscent of Madonna’s original VMA performance wedding cake.

Backstage and behind the curtain were three traveling mobile gyms, forty-five wardrobe trunks, three physical therapists, and forty pairs of boxing gloves. The production boasted fourteen spotlights for Madonna, over six-hundred intelligent lights illuminating the stage, 8800 lighting cues, 80 tons of production equipment, and a traveling crew of 200+. Notably, the costume department alone comprised 25 crew members, showcasing the scale of the production.

The 79-date tour, produced by Live Nation, now heads to Madonna’s adopted hometown of New York City in December, commencing the North American leg. The celebration will continue across the U.S. and Canada throughout spring 2024, concluding with four sold-out show and a 5th & final date added due to demand in Mexico City next April. Aluna today announces the launch of her record label, Noir Fever, in partnership with EMPIRE. The label will celebrate Black dance music, with a focus on Black women and LGBTQ+ artists.

The critically acclaimed album saw Aluna notch her first Billboard No. 1 as a solo artist, with the song “Running Blind” (with Tchami and Kareen Lomax) landing the top spot on Billboard’s Dance/Mixshow Airplay Chart.

A Night of Nostalgia and Raw Energy: Busted Rocks the O2 Arena

All photography by Jo Pinner, Rock The View
Review by Charlotte Wilce, Rock The View

Busted’s 20th Anniversary UK tour at the O2 Arena in London was nothing short of a whirlwind of nostalgia and electric energy. The arena was packed to the brim with fans, both old and new, ready to relive the magic that Busted has always been known for.
From the moment the lights dimmed and the first chords rang out, the crowd erupted in cheers and excitement. Busted opened the show with a bang, delivering hit after hit from their extensive discography. It was clear from the outset that the band had perfected the art of engaging their audience, effortlessly blending their signature pop-punk sound with an infectious stage presence.

There was undoubtedly the impeccable chemistry between the band members. Matt Willis, James Bourne, and Charlie Simpson demonstrated a remarkable synergy that only comes from years of performing together. Their camaraderie was palpable, and it translated seamlessly into their music. Each member brought their own unique flair to the stage, complementing one another in a way that elevated the entire performance.

The setlist was a carefully curated trip down memory lane, featuring beloved classics like “What I Go to School For”, “Year 3000” and “Air Hostess.” These songs, which defined a generation, were met with a wave of nostalgia that swept over the audience. It was heartwarming to see fans of all ages singing along with the same passion and fervour that they did years ago.

Joining them for 2 of their songs was Hanson with both bands performing Hanson’s 1997 hit MMMBop with an upgraded Busted spin on it. Hanson return the favour performing “Sleeping With The Light On”. If there needs to be a future collaboration, please get Busted and Hanson together!
One of the standout moments of the night was Charlie Simpson announcing to us all, “Is there an Ed here?”. Repeating the question over and over he then announces to the crowd “Please welcome Ed Sheeran!”. Ed joined them for one of Busted’s hits “Who’s David?” much to everyone’s delight. Ed even did a little thank you speech to them at the end of the song about how he was thankful to Busted for his own career and inspiration to pick up a guitar.
In addition to the classics, Busted also showcased tracks from their more recent albums, demonstrating their continued growth as musicians. The newer material seamlessly blended with the old, proving that the band has not lost its touch in evolving with the times.
Busted’s concert at the O2 Arena was a testament to their enduring talent and the indelible mark they have left on the music industry. It was a night filled with infectious energy, sing-along anthems, and a genuine connection between the band and their dedicated fanbase. For anyone looking to relive the glory days of early 2000s pop-punk or discover the timeless appeal of Busted, their concerts are an absolute must-see.

Blackpink Electrifies British Summer Time Festival with Unforgettable Performance

(Photos by Jo Pinner, Rock The View)

BLACKPINK, one of the biggest Korean girl groups in the world, broke records by becoming the first ever Korean band to headline a major UK festival. This time they performed in front of 65,000 people at the British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park, London!

Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa took the stage by storm, leaving the audience in awe with their breathtaking performance. The highly anticipated event, held at London’s Hyde Park, showcased the group’s unmatched talent, charisma, and infectious energy, making it a night to remember for all attendees.

From the moment the lights dimmed and the familiar beats of their hit single “Pink Venom” filled the air, the crowd erupted into a frenzy of excitement. BLACKPINK emerged, each member radiating their unique charm, and immediately captivated the audience with their flawless synchronization and powerful vocals.

The production value of the performance was nothing short of spectacular. The stage was adorned with stunning visuals, incorporating vibrant LED screens, dynamic lighting effects, and mesmerizing pyrotechnics. These visual elements enhanced the overall atmosphere, creating a captivating experience that perfectly complemented BLACKPINK’s high-octane performance.

The girls took the time to interact with their fans, expressing gratitude for their support and showering them with love. Their genuine appreciation and infectious smiles further solidified the bond between BLACKPINK and their dedicated Blinks (as their fans are affectionately called).

The setlist was thoughtfully curated, featuring a mix of their chart-topping hits and fan-favorite tracks. Each song transitioned seamlessly into the next, maintaining an exhilarating momentum throughout the entire performance. The infectious energy radiating from Blackpink was contagious, as the crowd danced, sang along, and waved their light sticks in unison.

During the middle of the show, each girl performed a solo song each. (We don’t think we have ever seen a band do this at a show before) it works though as every member of the group got rewarded with a roar of cheers and applause!

BLACKPINK closed the show with ” Forever Young” bringing the festival to a climactic end. The sheer energy, stage presence, and showmanship displayed during this final performance solidified their status to show the rest of the world what K-pop is all about.

Mötley Crüe Surprise Fans with an Incredible Live Show at The Underworld Camden

(Photographer credit: Shapiro Media)

Mötley Crüe put on a mind-blowing live performance for 450 lucky fans at The Underworld Club in London, an incredible rare secret club show from the global icons.

The streets of Camden came alive Friday night with the buzz that Mötley Crüe might be the band on the flyer listed as DÖGS OF WAR, with lines around the block for the most exclusive gig in town.

In a venue where most bands play their first gig, as part of their set, the band (vocalist Vince Neil, bassist Nikki Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee and guitarist John 5) performed their iconic anthems Shout At The Devil, Dr. Feelgood, Girls Girls Girls and many more including a premiere of their cover of Beastie Boys’ “Fight For Your Right” as fans couldn’t believe their luck seeing the band perform in such a small venue.

This wasn’t our first time playing a SECRET club show and it will definitely not be the last. We love doing this, especially before larger shows. We love when we can play these intimate shows for our fans.” – Mötley Crüe

The news of the intimate show first came last week to fans via a cryptic flyer across the band’s Twitter, under the name ‘DÖGS OF WAR’. Tonight this show put an end to all speculation, as the band revealed this is the name of one of several brand new songs that they have recently recorded with Bob Rock in the studio.

London’s Mötley fans have never been closer to the band in the UK, in touching distance of Vince on the mic, Nikki as he commanded the bass, Tommy on drums and John 5 on guitar as the clubs amps blasted out hit after hit with raw intensity. Social media immediately became flooded with live clips by excited fans.

Tomorrow (Saturday 1 July) by contrast, Mötley Crüe will perform at Wembley Stadium in front of 50,000 fans as part of their current European leg of The World Tour with Def Leppard, which ends on 6 July in Glasgow before they head back to the U.S. for more stadium shows in August and the tour continues in Japan and Australia this Fall.

P!nk Delivers a Sensational Performance at the British Summer

Time Festival!

P!nk captivated the audience at the British Summer Time Festival in London, from the moment she graced the stage until the final encore, P!nk demonstrated why she is considered one of the greatest performers of our time.

Her energy was infectious from the outset. As she opened with her hit song “Get the Party Started,” suspended high above the stage, the crowd erupted with excitement, instantly transforming the atmosphere into an electric frenzy. Her commanding stage presence and magnetic charisma held everyone’s attention throughout the entire set.

One of the most remarkable aspects of P!nk’s performance was her incredible vocal prowess. Her voice effortlessly soared through Hyde Park, hitting every note with power and precision. Whether she was belting out emotional ballads like “Just Give Me a Reason” or delivering high-octane anthems like “So What,” her vocals were flawless and filled with raw emotion. We were treated to her daughter Willow singing with her mom during “Cover Me in Sunshine”

The production value of the show was nothing short of extraordinary. P!nk is renowned for her acrobatic stunts, and she did not disappoint. From daring aerial displays to gravity-defying choreography, she pushed the boundaries of what is physically possible while maintaining flawless vocal delivery. The stage design and lighting effects perfectly complemented her music, creating a visually stunning spectacle that enhanced the overall experience.

Beyond the jaw-dropping theatrics, P!nk’s genuine connection with her fans was heartwarming. She took moments between songs to share personal stories and messages of empowerment, inspiring the crowd with her authenticity and vulnerability. Her ability to make each audience member feel seen and valued was a testament to her genuine passion for her craft.

The setlist was a well-balanced mix of her greatest hits and newer material, ensuring that both longtime fans and newcomers were thoroughly entertained. The crowd enthusiastically sang along to anthems like “Raise Your Glass” and “Just Like a Pill,” creating an atmosphere of unity and celebration.

The grand finale was nothing short of breathtaking. As P!nk closed her set with “So What” she soared above the crowd, suspended by aerial silks, while landing in front of different areas of the audience.

If there’s a person you need to see perform live, it’s defintely P!nk!

Black Deer Festival: A Weekend Escape into the World of Americana and Country!

From the moment we arrived at Eridge Park  (set amidst the stunning Kent countryside in Tunbridge Wells) we were greeted by a sea of people wearing cowboy hats, all congregating for one purpose for the next 3 days – Americana and country music!

The musical lineup at the Black Deer Festival proved to be an success. Spanning multiple stages, it featured an eclectic mix of established artists and rising talents.  From soul-stirring ballads to foot-stomping hoedowns, the music resonated with the crowd, eliciting an electric energy that flowed through the entire festival site.

We had the opportunity to discover new artists whilst also enjoying unforgettable performances from renowned acts. The Pretenders, Bonnie Raitt, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, The Teskey Brothers & Steve Earle, all leading the way in huge interest and singalongs from the crowds. Damian Lewis released his debut album on Friday and was able to perform it live for all to hear. Far From Saints (Kelly Jones (Stereophonics), Patty Lynn (Austin), Dwight Baker (The Wind and The Wave)) were on top form having released their debut album earlier in the day!

The Songwriting Sessions were worth a break from the main stage, these involved a group of artists, playing some of their songs, complete with stories behind them.

Beyond the music, Black Deer Festival offered a plethora of enriching experiences. The workshops and talks provided insights into various aspects of Americana culture, from songwriting and instrument craftsmanship to whiskey tasting and BBQ cooking. The emphasis on promoting local artisans and vendors added an authentic touch to the festival, with a range of handcrafted goods, delicious food, and refreshing beverages available throughout the site.

One aspect that deserves special mention is the sense of community that permeated the festival. Black Deer Festival fostered an environment where strangers became friends, and connections were formed through a shared love for music and the outdoors. The friendly and inclusive atmosphere was contagious, with fellow festival-goers readily engaging in conversations inbetween acts. We spoke to one woman who said she didn’t know much about Americana music, but was impressed by how talented all the artists were and how passionately they performed their music. When asked if she would attend next year, “Absolutely without a doubt!” was her response.

Whether you’re a devoted fan of the genre or simply seeking a unique and memorable festival experience, Black Deer Festival is an absolute must-attend event. We cannot recommend it enough, and eagerly look forward to returning again in the future!

THE BETHS share new single ‘Watching The Credits’

The Beths present their new single, ‘Watching The Credits’, and unveil their incredible Tiny Desk Concert, proving once again that they are “one of the greatest indie-rock bands of their time” (Rolling Stone). ‘Watching The Credits’ is a terrific power pop anthem recorded during the sessions of Expert In A Dying Field, the New Zealand quartet’s acclaimed 2022 album. Born out of songwriter Elizabeth Stokes’ habit of learning everything about movies without actually watching them, ‘Watching The Credits’ is Stokes’ imaginary view from the director’s seat. Their accompanying NPR Tiny Desk performance downsizes their beloved live performance while maintaining their signature thrilling energy.

Expert In A Dying Field, the third studio album from The Beths, was released to a wealth of critical praise, and was named one of 2022’s best releases by the likes of Pitchfork, The Ringer, and Stereogum, who praised it as “another collection of tunes that cements their status as one of the great guitar-pop bands of this present moment.” Surrounding its release, The Beths were profiled by Rolling Stone, Document Journal, The Big Takeover and more, and made their US television debut on CBS Saturday Morning. With a full, almost entirely sold out North American tour already under their belt, and supporting slots for The National, Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service on the horizon, The Beths are undeniably one of the most exciting indie rock bands to emerge in recent memory.

Taylor Hawkins Tribute, Wembley Stadium, London

We were very lucky to attend the Taylor Hawkins Tribute at Wembley Stadium, London. 6 hours of music from a variety of talented musicians, each of them a major artist in their own right. For the whole 6 hours each band/artist performed three songs, these consisted of songs that were favorites of Taylor or songs that were a tribute to him. For the final hour, Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters led into what could be described as a mini Foo Fighters gig. It was their first ever time playing without Taylor on drums since he joined the band in 1997. For every 2 songs they played, they invited a guest drummer on to play along to a Foo Fighters track. One of these drummers was Taylor’s son Shane, who performed “My Hero” with the band and made every single one of us 80,000 people there amazed at his incredible drumming ability and knowing this could be the start of seeing Shane Hawkins drumming in the future.
Dave (Grohl) ended the show by saying “I hope that you guys felt all the love from all of us and all of the performers, because we felt it from you for Taylor tonight,” Yes Dave you and the rest of the Foo Fighters defintley did their brother Taylor proud.

IRON MAIDEN ANNOUNCE FIRST SHOWS OF 2023’s THE FUTURE PAST TOUR

IRON MAIDEN will be bringing a new tour to Europe in the Summer of 2023 including arena shows in the UK & Ireland. THE FUTURE PAST TOUR will feature previously unperformed songs from the band’s most recent studio album, Senjutsu along with a focus on 1986’s iconic Somewhere In Time record, plus other classic cuts.

Dates are as below. Tickets go on sale from Friday 14th October at 9am via LiveNation.co.uk As always there will be an exclusive pre-sale for IRON MAIDEN fanclub members.

Says founder member and bassist Steve Harris,
“Following the release of our latest album, Senjutsu, we updated the current Legacy of the Beast Tour a little by opening the show with the first 3 songs from it, with the Japanese Palace stage set. As it doesn’t make a lot of sense to repeat this for a Senjutsu album tour, we thought about other options and we’ve decided to revisit Somewhere In Time as that tour didn’t feature in the various retrospective history tours we’ve played over the years. They were based on our 80’s concert videos and sadly we did not film that tour (blame the manager!!).  We have had lots of requests from fans over the years for many tracks on it so we are now going to play them, plus of course a few others we know you will like! It will also be particularly satisfying to finally get to play some of the more epic tracks on Senjutsu, it’s been a long wait! 2023 is going to be an exciting time and we’re really looking forward to seeing everyone again in the UK, Ireland and around Europe”.

Manager, Rod Smallwood adds,
“This combination of the two albums we feel is very exciting. We know fans want to hear those epic cuts on Senjutsu for the first time live and we think that by combining it with an iconic album like Somewhere In Time it will make for another really special tour for fans old and new! Of course, for a new album tour in Europe and the UK we will go back largely to the relative intimacy of arenas and we know fans will be very happy about that too!”

The band are currently in North America in the final stages of their spectacular Legacy Of The Beast World Tour, interrupted for two years by Covid with many shows rescheduled twice. The tour actually started in Tallin, Estonia in May 2018, the first of 139 shows in 33 countries. By the last show in Tampa, Florida on Oct 27 this year the band will have played to over THREE MILLION fans on this epic world tour.

Support on the UK & Ireland tour will be announced at a later date. The shows are:

JUN 24                3 ARENA, DUBLIN                                                       IRELAND

Fresh from dominating the main stages at Reading & Leeds festivals over the weekend, Enter Shikari are today sharing the video for their latest single, ‘The Void Stares Back’ feat. Wargasm. The song became the subject of much conversation over the weekend as the band brought Wargasm themselves out on stage with them for a first live airing.

Lead vocalist / producer Rou Reynolds previously described the song as being about “the forward march of social progress” and today the stunning official visual for the song is unveiled, directed by Elliot Gonzo.

Watch the video below.

Enter Shikari are also announcing that they will headline the 2023 edition of Slam Dunk Festival. Reynolds comments on the booking:

“I’ve been intoxicated by the idea of headlining Slam Dunk again ever since our Take To The Skies celebration headline set back in 2017. It’s such a great festival, always nails its bills, and has the added bonus that us lads can actually cycle to the Southern date, being that Hatfield is a neighbouring town to us!

In fact, essentially, this will be our biggest “hometown” show ever, now that the festival has grown even more. I cannot wait. In fact, I will not wait. I demand we play this tomorrow!

I think playing outdoors is my favourite thing to do in life. Just being able to look up and see the sky, with the expanse of people underneath it, all sharing the same emotions and experience, it’s just such a raw, beautiful, and reifying thing.

Slam Dunk is a festival I try to attend every year regardless of whether we’re playing it. I love both the sites, and it’s always full of mates and has such a convivial vibe. (That’s my word of the week).

We’re already thinking about stage production ideas, we’re going to do everything we can to make this our biggest show yet.”

Today, internationally acclaimed, multiple-award winning British musician YUNGBLUD has released his energetic new single Don’t Feel Like Feeling Sad Today.’ The high- octane track, written by Dominic Harrison (aka YUNGBLUD) and Matt Schwartz, exec produced by Chris Greatti, offers a taste of what’s to come from his highly anticipated third album YUNGBLUD’, set for global release on September 2nd via LOCOMOTION/Geffen Records. Pre-order/add/save YUNGBLUD HERE.

Listen to ‘Don’t Feel Like Feeling Sad Today’ HERE.

The release of Don’t Feel Like Feeling Sad Today‘ follows the filming of the track’s accompanying video last week (Monday, June 20th) which caused chaos on London’s Southbank as YUNGBLUD invited fans down to be involved. The video, directed by Tom Pallant and YUNGBLUD, showcases the artist and his fans getting chaotic in true YUNGBLUD style, drenching themselves during water fights, as he performs the song on a flatbed truck adorned in slogans. With a mass of fans taking over the location, armed with posters and water pistols, the wet-and-wild scene was subsequently deemed as overcrowding and shut down by the Metropolitan police authorities.

Watch the performance video for ‘Don’t Feel Like Feeling Sad Today’ HERE.

Speaking about the inspiration and meaning of the track, YUNGBLUD reveals, “I wrote this song on a morning when I didn’t even want to get out of bed. I sat and looked at the ceiling, head full of so much shit, reading what the internet was saying about me that day, and I just didn’t feel like feeling sad. I wrote these words to help me stand up. To me this song is what happiness feels like. Happiness with a bite. A defiant sort of happiness. Looking at yourself in the mirror and telling the sadness to fuck off and come back another day. I wanted this song to be a little part of someone’s day, no matter what they’re going through they can put this on and feel a bit stronger today. That’s the vision, that’s the dream… That’s why when we made the video. It needed to replicate that idea. My manager asked me ‘what can we do, that no one else does?’ And the concept came to us. All over the world I meet my fans in the streets, to feel a connection. To look into another person’s eyes and see that they’re going through the same things as me. It’s kind of become a ritual of ours. Put it this way, the fucking police all over the world know when we’re town! So I said let’s roll some cameras, pull up a truck, no permits, no permission, tell people to meet me at a location and have a massive water fight. Sing, scream, and feel together. Imperfect, raw, real … happy.”

Last weekend, YUNGBLUD hit the iconic John Peel Stage at Glastonbury 2022 for an explosive debut performance. Playing to a packed-out tent, YUNGBLUD’s set included fan-favorites such as ‘Memories’, ‘parents‘, and ‘The Funeral’ alongside brand new, unreleased tracks ‘Tissues’ and ‘I cry 2′, taken from his upcoming self-titled album. The raucous performance saw the crowd chanting for an encore, whilst sending Twitter into a frenzy with YUNGBLUD trending at no.6 on UK Twitter and subsequently sending his past two Albums 21th Century Liability and Weird straight back into the top 15 on the UK album chart. Check out the full Glastonbury performance here. Over the weekend, YUNGBLUD also joined Chris Difford (Squeeze) on stage at The Acoustic Tent for a special performance of ‘Up The Junction’.

In July, he will head to Australia, New Zealand, and Japan to complete his ‘LIFE ON MARS” tour, followed by a return to North American shores this fall for select dates, including festival appearances at Austin City Limits, Louder Than LifeRiot Fest, and Firefly Music Festival. Rarely does an artist come along such as YUNGBLUD, who has undeniably become Gen-Z’s rock n’ roll poster child. Fearlessly advocating for the weirdos, freaks and the marginalized in the world, from the ground up, YUNGBLUD has amassed legions of dedicated fans from all over the world, who flock to his sold-out shows each night and scream every word to his songs as if their lives depend on it. With co-signs from rock legends such as Mick JaggerOzzy OsbourneSteve Jones, and Dave GrohlYUNGBLUD’Strajectory is looking brighter and more exciting than ever.

Last month, YUNGBLUD released his latest single ‘Memories’ ft. WILLOW [LISTEN HERE]. The track, which surpassed 1 million streams in its first week, was accompanied by an official music video directed by Colin Tilley [WATCH HERE]. Speaking on the song, YUNGBLUD revealed: “This song is about letting go of past traumas you may have experienced and voicing them to the world. There’s something freeing about turning painful memories from your past into lessons for your future – I want people to scream this song out and it be cathartic. It’s about coming together and shedding pain, turning it into positive energy and sharing the burden with each other.”

In March, YUNGBLUD released ‘The Funeral’ alongside a music video featuring Ozzy & Sharon Osbourne [WATCH HERE}. ‘The Funeral‘ has accumulated more than 25 million combined video and global streams and continues to grow. Djo, the solo project of musician / producer / actor Joe Keery, is back with new music.  Today, Djo announces his new album DECIDE out September 16th. Late last week, the Djo hotline went up allowing fans to dial (928)-8-DECIDE to hear a trippy 8-bit audio teaser. Today, he has released the first single from the forthcoming record – “Change.” “Change” is a psych-funk journey with heavy synths and influences as wide reaching as Parliament Funkadelic and the 70’s glam of T. Rex.

Listen to “Change” on streaming services here or share on YouTube below.

Djo’s new album, DECIDE will be released on September 16th and is the follow up to TWENTY TWENTY, his 2019 critically acclaimed guitar-forward record and his first solo-effort since departing his band, the Chicago psych rock outfit Post Animal. Keery –who is of course also known far and wide for his acclaimed acting roles in such blockbuster projects as Stranger Things – has been making music since his teens, spending over two years with Post Animal before making his solo debut as Djo. DECIDE was created with musician / engineer Adam Thein throughout the pandemic with final recording taking place at Sound Factory in Los Angeles. DECIDE serves as a sort of aural history of Keery’s late 20’s. It features reflections on growth, relationships and  navigating it all in a world filled with technology at its center. It’s his sonic ambitions however that take these introspections and melt them into a warped reality with each layered synth pulling the listener’s emotional strings.

From the release of TWENTY TWENTY and subsequent singles, Djo’s music has had an enormous amount of success. #Djo has racked up nearly 42 million hits on TikTok , has over 100 million global Spotify and Apple streams and over 133,000 Shazams. Keery self-releases all his music through AWAL.

Djo has been performing live throughout 2022, road-testing the songs from Decide and making appearances so far this year at Shaky Knees, Boston Calling and Bottle Rock festivals. Fans can catch him this summer and fall  at Lollapalooza, Sea Hear Now and Austin City Limits Festival.

MORE ABOUT DJO:

Djo – the critically acclaimed brainchild of multi-talented musician/actor Joe Keery – makes its long awaited return with the game-changing new album, DECIDE. A spellbinding collage of snaky pop hooks, neon melodies, and deeply personal singer-songwriter lyricism, the album melds high-tech songcraft with quick wit, irrepressible spirit, and an impressive breadth of vision that showcases glowing synths and big beats over the trippy guitars that defined 2019’s acclaimed debut, TWENTY TWENTY. Blissed-out bops like “Change” see Keery delving deep into a broad spectrum of eclectic influences, deconstructing hyperpop, euphoric psychedelia, spiky new wave, and symphonic 70’s rock into something utterly unique via dauntless melodies and technical innovation.

DECIDE is out everywhere Sept 16.

The Beths announce their new album, Expert In A Dying Field, out September 16th on Carpark Records, and share the new single/video, Silence Is Golden.” On Expert In A Dying Field, Elizabeth Stokes’ songwriting positions her somewhere between being a novelist and a documentarian. The songs collected here are autobiographical, but they’re also character sketches of relationships – platonic, familial, romantic – and more importantly, their aftermaths. The shapes and ghosts left in absences. The question that hangs in the air: what do you do with how intimately versed you’ve become in a person, once they’re gone from your life?

The third LP from the New Zealand quartet houses 12 jewels of tight, guitar-heavy songs that worm their way into your head, an incandescent collision of power-pop and skuzz. With Expert, The Beths wanted to make an album meant to be experienced live, for both the listeners and themselves. They wanted it to be fun – to hear, to play – in spite of the prickling anxiety throughout the lyrics, the fear of change and struggle to cope. Expert is an extension of the same sonic palette the band has built across their catalog, pop hooks embedded in incisive indie rock.

Most of Expert was recorded at guitarist Jonathan Pearce’s studio on Karangahape Road in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa (Auckland, New Zealand) – and sometimes in the building’s cavernous stairwell at 1AM – toward the end of 2021, until they were interrupted by a four-month national lockdown. They traded notes remotely for months, songwriting from afar and fleshing out the arrangements alone, the first time they’d written together in such a way. The following February, The Beths left the country for the first time in more than two years to tour across the US, and simultaneously finish mixing the album on the road. That latter half felt more collaborative, with everyone on-hand to trade notes in real time, until it all culminated in a chaotic three-day studio mad-dash in Los Angeles. There, Expert finally became the record they were hearing in their heads.

The result is a capsule of The Beths’ most electrifying and exciting output, a sonic spectrum. “Silence is Golden,” with its propulsive drum line and stop-start staccato of a guitar line winding up and down, is one of the band’s sharpest and most driving. “The song is about stress and anxiety manifesting as an intolerance to noise,” says Stokes. “Where each new sound makes you more and more stressed.”
